Survey on Cultural Heritage Adaptive Reuse practice

Project description
Project Id 3373
Project Name Former Royal Stables in Villa Favorita, Italy
Description The building was originally used as stable serving the eighteenth-century complex of Villa La Favorita. The stable and the complex with annexed park lie opposite each other, overlooking the historical pathway known as "Miglio d'Oro". Located in a central position with respect to the main axes and urban center (Corso Resina, railway, coast, port, etc.), the former royal stables could play a crucial role in the reconstruction of the relationships between the main areas and networks of historical importance and landscape significance (Villas Vesuviane, Vesuvio, sea, archaeological area etc.), improving the attractiveness and the tourist usability of Ercolano at once.
Description of the economic, social and environmental impacts of the project The intervention of recovery and reuse of the former stables of Villa La Favorita has been realized in order to combine the needs of protection with those of social and economic development, transforming a neglected building of historical-artistic interest in a tourist-receptive and cultural structure. Among other services, the structure houses a restaurant, a pizzeria, and a literary coffee, whose activities have determined positive impacts in terms of employment in Herculaneum municipality. Currently the stables of Villa La Favorita constitute a multicultural center, place of interest for citizenship and tourism due to the activities of the Cultural Center. The building is home to socio-cultural initiatives (exhibition, cineforum, book presentation, concert, cabaret) through which it is intended to build dialectic between the local community and visitors. Growing trend of tourist flows;Safeguarding and protecting cultural heritage.
