Rehabilitation of the palace Do Raio in Braga by establishing a museum of memories called Centro Interpretativo das Memorias. The Palace of Raio (Portuguese: Palácio do Raio) is a Baroque-era residence in the urbanized area of the municipality of Braga, in the civil parish of São José de São Lázaro. Late Baroque, early Rococo style of decoration by Portuguese architect André Soares, notable for his influence in the northern Baroque movement. The construction of this ornate palace was ordered by João Duarte de Faria, a knight of the Order of Christ, who was a rich merchant. Palacio Do Raio one of the most important baroque architecture constructions of the country and the “ex-libris” of Braga. With over 250 years, the Palace of Raio (Palácio do Raio), or House of the Mexican (Casa so Mexicano) is a new chapter of its history, opening to the city as the Interpretive Center Memories of the Mercy of Braga (Centro Interpretativo Memórias da Misericórdia de Braga). Retaining of social and cultural values Improved place attachment and local identity In this Interpretive Center, it will be possible to travel over the multi-century history of the Holy House of Mercy, through ten thematic groups. From Sacred Art to painting, going through the sculpture and pottery, until the jewelry and archival documentation, the permanent exhibition of the collection is presented in an interactive and dynamic way, with ambient sound effects, videos and other elements that also allow contemplating the architectural beauty of the building. Amongst the various estates present in the ten thematic rooms, it is possible to observe pieces of sacred art, textiles, painting, sculpture, goldsmithery, ceramics and archival documentation. |
