4013 Olive groves of the town of Cres, Croatia The island of Cres is located in Kvarner bay and it is the northernmost and biggest island in the Croatian Adriatic. Today, olive grove terraces of the island of Cres are the largest homogenous traditional olive grove area on the Croatian coast. They count more than 300.000 olive trees and comprise an area of 12 km2. Only a third of the trees are active today since much of the agricultural land is abandoned. However, the local agricultural cooperative in the 1950s decided to implement the olive-sheep model within the olive grove. This model can be found only in Cres (in this extension) and has been researched by the UN agency FAO who in the 1970s helped rethink and reinvest in the olive growing. Today it represents a unique example of a self-sustaining agropastoral system where sheep have the function of maintenance and fertilization of olive groves thereby almost replacing human labour and facilitating the reuse of their omnipresent dry stone walls.
4014 Adopt a terrace in the Brenta River Valley, Italy The Brenta River Valley is a narrow valley in the northwestern part of Veneto, in the Province of Vicenza. The territorial development of the valley is characterized by the diffusion of the tobacco cultivation, starting from the XVIII century under the Republic of Venice. Tobacco-growing spread in the valley assuming the role of monoculture and brought the inhabitants to build extensive systems of agricultural terraces on the slopes (estimated total area 350 Ha, length 230 Km). Tobacco cultivation remained the main occupation of the inhabitants for two centuries, while the terraces grew steadily. After the Second World War the production of tobacco collapsed, the number of farms dropped (by 90% in the Municipality of Valstagna), leading to a rapid abandonment of the terraced areas, leaving extensive stone structures on the slopes. In the last decades research projects were developed starting a new use of this heritage, linked to tourism and family farming.

4022 Lanificio25 headquartier of regeration project, Italy In 2005 I saw the Lanificio for the first time. I didn't know the place, but I had the impression that he wanted to tell me his story. Things speak, says Francesca Rigotti in her book "Il pensiero delle cose" ed. Apogee. It is a monumental complex of the fifteenth century born as a monastery where the priests cultivated medicinal herbs famous in Europe because an underground river, the Sebeto, flows underneath and supplies some underground tanks dug into the tuff. In 1823 the king of Naples gave this building to Baron Sava, who set up there a wool factory. In this "Lanificio" 600 workers worked and it remained in operation for over 100 years. After the unification of Italy it failed. The Lanificio is the cloister of the church of Santa Caterina a Formiello, next to Porta Capuana inaugurated in 1484 to be the most important entrance to the city of Naples. So I bought a part of the building in 2005 and in 2006 I opened the Lanificio25 as arts factory.
