Workshop “The adaptive re-use of our built heritage for a greener Europe” – Brussels, 9 October 2019
On 9 October 2019, in Brussels, it will be held a workshop on “The adaptive re-use of our built heritage for a greener Europe” promoted by the Architects Council of Europe (ACE) in the context of the “European Week of Regions and Cities” that will take place from 7 to 10 October.
More than six thousand people from all over Europe and beyond are expected to join the largest event of European Regions and Cities, this year under the headline “Regions and Cities: Pillars of the EU’s Future”.
The workshop will aim to discuss the benefits, challenges and barriers inherent to adaptive re-use projects, starting out from the Leeuwarden Declaration that was adopted last year as a legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and through the presentation of good practices and findings from different perspectives.
CLIC will contribute introducing the concept of circular economy applied to the adaptive reuse of cultural heritage and landscape with a view to economic development and environmental regeneration.
Many heritage places are nowadays disused or have lost the functions for which they were originally built. Through smart renovation and transformation, they can find new uses and bring further economic, social, environmental and cultural values to individuals and the society.
There will be present as speakers:
- Eugen PANESCU, member of the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) Executive Board
- Cristina CLOTET OLLÉ, Institut Català del Sòl (INCASÒL), member of the Urban Agenda Partnership on Sustainable Use of Land and Nature-Based Solutions
- Antonia GRAVAGNUOLO, CNR IRISS and representative from the CLIC project (Horizon 2020)
- Kristian BORRET, Bouwmeester of the City of Brussels
